Inclusive Mobility Community Toolkit
Training, tools and guidance for community groups to identify issues and challenges using public transportation and develop an action plan for change
What's the issue?
Public transportation (transit) is a key element of inclusive communities - done well, it enables people to visit friends and family, travel to work and access health and education services. But for many people, using public transportation can be a challenging experience as they face poor information, physical inaccessibility and unsafe journeys. This can leave members of the community that are already marginalised and excluded at particular risk of isolation.
What's the initiative?
Tools and workshop methodologies to enable community groups to identify the key challenges and issues they face
Training for community leaders to understand key public transportation issues and how they can make positive change happen
Support, guidance and templates to develop an inclusive transportation community-led advocacy action plan
What will the toolkit include?
-
Community Leader Training - foundation training in the basics of public transportation and mobility so that motivated community group leaders can take forward the process and advocate for change with confidence and credibility.

-
Mobility Challenges Workshop - why does mobility matter and what are the barriers and issues that different people face in their community? An interactive workshop methodology that explores these questions through the real and imagined journeys of different characters.

-
Context + Analysis Framework - gathering key information about mobility in the community alongside the workshop insights, this tool enables community leaders to derive insights and potential solutions unique to their context.

-
Community Advocacy Action Plan - a framework to guide a community to agree on a set of clear and achievable demands and identify and approach key stakeholders and actors that can help delivery change.

-
Communications Materials - guidance and suggestions on how to launch a campaign, raise awareness and create pressure for meaningful change.

What are the next steps?
We are currently developing the contents of the toolkit and are looking for industry partners interested in supporting the initiative with knowledge and resources. We aim to guide the first set of communities to develop their Inclusive Mobility Advocacy Action Plans during 2024 before further rolling out the approach with community groups around the world.
