Sustainability Review for non-profit organisations, charitable trusts and foundations
We support NGOs, charitable trusts and foundations to strengthen the environmental sustainability and climate justice outcomes of their operations and grant giving.
Adopting a rigorous approach to environmental sustainability and promoting climate justice is increasingly recognised as going hand in hand with maximising the social impact of your operations, projects and grant making. We offer a simple three step process to review charitable trusts and foundations operations and grant giving from a sustainability and climate justice perspective, provide clear policy recommendations and give step-by-step implementation support.
A three step approach
Step One
Review existing operations and grant giving activities to assess environmental impact
We will conduct an initial internal review of the current operations and grant giving of your charitable trust or foundation. This will include estimating the current climate and ecological impact and reviewing policies and processes to identify opportunities for strengthening - with a clear Climate Scorecard providing a benchmark for future progression.
Step Two
Present clear options for management and trustees to consider alongside a roadmap for implementation
Step Two involves a workshop for your team and interested trustees to review your current situation and discuss potential options to set a road map for your sustainability and climate justice journey.
Step Three
Develop clear operational and grant giving policy statements and documents to implement change
Step Three adds detail to the agree road map and takes the initial actions forward including drafting revisions to existing policies and processes related to your operations and grant giving.
Sion Jones, Lead Consultant
I've worked in the third sector for over 15 years, delivering strategic reviews for non profit organisations and working closely on a number of projects with small and medium sized charitable trusts and foundations. These have included climate related humanitarian response, disaster risk reduction programmes and ecosystem based adaptation.
In 2022 I completed a Sustainability and Climate Change review for a large international non governmental organisation with an annual turnover in excess of £25 million, identifying key areas of opportunity to stream line the carbon footprint of their operations and ensure adequate measures to mitigate against any unintended ecosystem impacts. The work also included developing a climate change policy to align with their organisational objectives.
We also work with a number of associates with specific expertise in different areas related to sustainability and draw on their knowledge and input on a project by project basis.
